ON THE WANE.
DEATH SENTENCE ON THE JAZZ. New York, August 17. While ’the jazz craze is increasing in London and Pakis, it is on the wane in the country of its origin. Within the ranks of the American Federation of Musicians itself a revolt has occurred against “catcalls, squeaks and squaks of the clarinet, and wheezes from the saxophone, especially in connection with dance music.” The movement is spreading rapidly. It began in the local union of Asheville, North Carolina, whicli adopted unanimously the following motion: ■That orchestra musicians playing any engagement must conduct themselves as if they were on a professional engagement, and refrain f?om making any unnecessary or unusual noises not indicated in the music, or making movements conspicuously noticeable that would tend to detract from the dignity of their performance.”
