CORRESPONDENCE.

BOROUGH VICTIMISATION. (To the Editor.) Sir, —Having regard to your sub-leader of recent date, in connection with the dismissal of five men from the hydro-electric works, and your remarks and demands thereon, which I am sure must tmeet with the approval of every fair-minded Britisher, allow me to inform you that, this is not the first occasion on which allegations against borough employees have been made, and the employee or victim dismissed and denied by the engineer and foreman the opportunity of refuting the charge or charges made against them, the said charges being in the first instance tendered by tale bearers, or men who only keep their jobs by tale-bearing on their fel-low-worker to the officials above mentioned. Now, Sir, I contend what is "sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.” If, as recently occurred, specific charges are levelled by councillors against the engineer and foreman, as to their system of borough matters, and the officials in question are given by the Mayor and councillors an opportunity of refuting such statements, why cannot the officials apply the same measure of fair play to the men working under them? In conclusion, Sir, 1 have to point out that occurrences such as above indicated are all too ■■■•mmon, and matters have now reached a stage ; if, which those representing the interests of ratepayers should thoroughly investigate and place occurrences of this kind beyond officials who are not endowed with a sense of British fair play, and whose only method seems to be "the end justifies the means.”— I am, etc., RATEPAYER.
