POWER FOR FARMERS.
THE TARIKI SCHEME. REQUEST FOR A LICENSE. (By Wire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. A deputation representing the Egmont Power Board to-day waited on the Minister of Public Works to ask for a license to develop 2000 h.p. at Tariki. It was stated that the estimated cost of development (£80,000) was so low that the scheme would be one of the cheapest in New Zealand. The capacity of the producing plant could be extended to 20,000 h.p. There would be a large demand for power from dairy farmers, of whom there were about 1000 in the power district. The Minister was unable to give a definite assurance that a license would, be granted, but he undertook to have the application investigated by the department’s engineers. The deputation was followed by a conference of officers of the Power
Board with the chief engineer of the department and the chief electrical engineer.
