BOY KILLED BY TAXI By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, October 24. Keith Markwell, aged years, died in hospital at midnight as the result of injuries sustained iby being knocked down at 7.30 p.m. at the corner of Victoria and Chester Streets by a taxi driven by William H.. Dunstan. Dunstan informed the police that the boy ran in front of the car whidh wias travelling ten or twelve miles an hour. His statement regarding the speed wae coroborated by the motor inspector, who saw the car just before the accident. ACCIDENT TO MAIL CAR. - Christchurch, October 24. One of Read’s mail cars overturned on Labour Ray on Takamatua Hill, nearing Akaroa. A bretik-down of the differential gear on the eteep hill caused the car to run back, overturning against the bank. The eight occupants escaped with bruises. CAR OVERTURNED BY GALE. Pahiatua, October 24. Last evening George Dryden, a married man, manager of the Mauriceville limeworks, was returning from Pahiatua and approaching the bridge near the hospital when the gale struck the car, which landed in the creek. Dryden had three ribs fractured and other injuries. He is in a serious condition. A BOATING FATALITY. Greymouth, October* 24. Norman. Wildermoth, aged 19, and Leonard Beale, aged 11, were drowned yesterday in the Victoria Park lagoon through their boat capsizing. A RIFLE FATALITY.

Auckland, October 2L William Benjamin Searle was shot dead accidently last night by his cousin, Walter Porter Searle, in a private house at Newmarket. They were examining a .303 rifle, which contained a cartridge, William had placed the rifle on the kitchen table and Walter took it up, not knowing it was loaded, and pressed the trigger. William was standing alongside. The bullet entered his upper lip and emerged behind his left ear. Death was instantaneous.
