Mr. Neal Mclsaac, postmaster at Picton, is spending a few days’ holiday in New Plymouth. Mr. J. Brandon, who for some time past has been a member of the Stratford Fire Brigade, has been appointed assistant-motorman to the New Plymouth Fire Board. Two of the oldest colonists in Auckland, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Fronde, of Howick, celebrated their diamond wedding this week. Mr. Froude is 86, and his wife 81.
The death took place in the Hawera hospital on Sunday night of Mr. Douglas I). Henderson, who for the past nine years had been teaching at the Hawera Main School. He carried out his duties at the school as usual on Friday, but he took ill on Friday night and was taken to hospital on Saturday morning. It was anticipated that an Operation would be necessary in a few days’ time, but it was found that an immediate operation was necessary. Unfortunately complications set in, and Mr. Henderson passed away at 7 o’clock on Sunday evening. He leaves a wife and three children, the youngest of whom is three months old and the eldest four years. Mr. Henderson was a man of sterling character and was beloved by all who came in contact with him, the pupils at the school being especially devoted to him. Mr. Henderson, w! was 31 years of age. was secretary of the South Taranaki Cricket Association and was a membeV of the golf club, the Hawera Male Choir and St. Mary’s Choir. The news of Mr. Hendersons death was received with profound regret by his numerous friends, and the deepest sympathy for his wife and family is expressed.—Star.
