DISPOSAL OF PRODUCE.
THE MARKET IN LONDON. INTEREST IN MEAT BOARD. The marketing of New Zealand products in Britain was briefly commented on at Auckland the other day by Mr. J. Boddie, chairman of directors of the Farmers’ Union Trading Company, who returned 'by the Niagara after a tour oi Britain, Northern Europe, and America. Mr. Boddie spent a considerable time in London carefully investigating the different methods in operation for the disposal of New Zealand produce. He also visited Denmark and conducted, special inquiries in that country regarding the dairying industry. As a result of his investigations in London, Mr. Boddie said he found there was a great deal to learn on “the subject. It was only when one went behind the scenes that one realised How little the average New Zealand farmer really did know on the vital subject ot produce disposal. He was fortunate in finding Mr. .1. S. Jereep, of the New Zealand Meat Pool Board, in London actively engaged in collecting information for the board. From what he fathered from all soureee Mr. Boddie said he was convinced that given time, and the loyal support of the Dominion producers the establishment of the Meat Board would mark a great forward movement in the frozen meat industry It was surprising to him to find that the establishment of the board had created more interest in New Zea land, not only in England, bu in other countries, than perhaps anything that had occurred for many years. It certainly had provided an unlocked for but ’much needed, advertisement for New Zealand produce of all kinds. Referring to matters connected with the dairying industry in P 0 ”"’? , ' Boddie expressed the. opinion that New Zealand had nothing to learn from the Danes in regard to dairying methods or butter manufacture. He was confident that New Zealand butter was second to none in quality. tVhat impressed him in Denmark more than anything els, was the thoroughness of their co-opera-tive svstem. This in his opinion gave them a tremendous strength compared with New Zealand, where unfortunately a ‘good many co-operative companies oi all sorts were in active eomnetiiion. During his lour, said Mr Bodd.e, lie had collected a considerable volume valuable information relating io farm er < co-operative enterprises in other lands, which ho hoped would be found helpful to the farmers of th? Dominion
