LAWN TENNIS.

THE STRATFORD CLUB. ■ The annual meeting of the Stratford Tennis Club was held on Friday night. The annual report states the membership (61 men and 48 ladies) showed a considerable advance on the previous year’s figures. The club reached the semi-finals in the B grade competition, being defeated by Inglewood by one game. Arrangements had been made with the Domain Board for the club to occupy part of Victoria Park, and three grass and three concrete courts had been laid down, £4OO being borrowed for the purpose. The grass courts cost £lO4 Ils, and the concrete courts £276. The club has also permission to use the three old grass courts iu the south-east corner of Victoria Park for this season. The club has no right to any of the improvements placed on the park, as they automatically become the property of the board. The report was adopted. Mr. F. H. Masters was nominated for reelection as president, but declined, saying he thought the office should go round. Mr. H. E. Lawrence was elected without opposition. Messrs. W. Mackay and F. Ranford were elected vice-presidents. Miss Nash declined nomination for the office of secretary, and Me. Gerald Wilson was elected. Mr. E. E. Mace was elected treasurer, and Mr. F. R. Fairey hon. auditor. The following committee wree elected: Mrs. Weston, Misses Tombs and Carryer; Messrs. H. W. Lightband, C. Clark an! P. Wright. The appointment of club captain was held over. Messrs. Lightband, Lawrence and Clark were elected the match committee. The secretary of the Taranaki Tennis Association wrote that it was proposed to continue the inter-club competition, which would be divided into north and south sections, with A and B grades. It was decided to enter one team in the A grade.
