Frances Alfred Stemta and Joseph William Youl, managers of Paramount Artcraft Theatres, were charged with exhibiting a film, “Arabian Love,” uncensored. Counsel pleaded an oversight by defendants, also that a Film Company picture was screened for a week and subsequently passed without a cut. They were fined £1 and costs. DEFENCE STORES CHARGES; Wellington, Oct. 20. Colonel A. McDonald’s charges of the gift of defence stores was investigated to-day by the Defence Committee of the House of Representatives in private. A BRILLIANT METEOR. Napier, October 20.

.A brilliant meteor lighted up Napier at 10.30 last night. A flood of brilliant light came with the ! uddenness of an explosion, although there was no n<:’se. The meteor then became duller, but renewed its former brilliance and retained it for some seconds. The meteor travelled in a northerly direction and was visible for about 15 seconds. Those who saw it were convinced that they had never seen a brighter one. It was blue in colour. The meteor shone with an intensity that was alarming to some people. INFLUENZA ON H.M.S. CHATHAM. Auckland, October 20. Two mild casas of influenza developed on board the Chatham, which will not come out of quarantine to-morrow, as originally arranged. EDUCATION VOTE REDUCED. Wellington, Oct. 20. The Canterbury Education Board's Government grant for the maintenance of buildings this year will be £17,555, roughly £2OOO less than normal. The board agreed to-day to protest vigorously against the reduction.
