CHURCH AND DRINK.
CHRISTCHURCH VIEWS DIFFER. PROHIBITION SUPPORTED. By Telegrapit—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. A lengthy debate took at the session of the Diocesan Synod on the following motion: ‘ That thi^ r Synod, recognising the gravity of tly* issues involved, recommends churcrf people to vote national Prohibitiori in the forthcoming poll.” Dean Carringion moved the following amendment: “This Synod is not prepared to commit the Chufch in to adopting any particular political remedy proposed for the evil of the drink traffic, but calls on all members of the Church to use their iitmost endeavors as Christian citizenr’ to deal effectively with this problem according to their best and most careful judgment.” The amendment was lost by 49 votes to *26, and the motion was carried on the voices.
