MAIN HIGHWAYS.

BILL IN A FEW DAYS. RURAL CREDITS LATER. (By Wire-Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. “Does the Minister for Public Works intend to bring down the Main Highways Bill during this session?” was a familiar question put to-day to the Hon. J. G. Coates, who replied that he hoped to have the Bill ready to place before the Prime Minister in the course of a day or two. Mr. Massey gave a supplementary answer. “The Bill is not merely on the stocks, but we expect to have it launched within a day or two.” he said. “I have had to get some important legislation dealing with finance prepared, and that has taken preference. The Highways Bill will come along after the Finance Bill, which probably I shall be able to introduce to-morrow. The Highways Bill will get its turn and after that I hope to get the Bill dealing with agricultural banks or rural credit® before the House. I hope to get that before the House and dealt with before the end of the session.” A member: “Do you propose to pass th? Highways Bill this session?” Mr. Massey / replied that when the Government brought down a Bill a® important as the Highways Bill it expected to put it on the statute book, but the decision would rest with the House.
