ONEHUNGA—NEW PLYMOUTH SERVICE.
NORTHERN COMPANY’S REPLY. ■RARAWA IN NOVEMBER. The Taranaki Chamber of Commerce recently brought to the notice of the Northern Steamship Company the slow voyages made by the Rimu between New Plymouth and Onehunga, also the inadequacy of such a small boat for the work, and has now received the following reply from the general manager of the company: — “We have to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated the 9th inst., and note your remarks with reference to the time the Rimu is taking on M the journey from New Plymouth to Onehunga. and the request from your chamber that we put the Rarawa ba'ek in the running as early as possible. In reply, we have to state that we regret the Rimu has been making such poor trips, this being principally due to the class of coal she has been burning. We have now changed this coal, and, outside of bad weather, she should do the trip on a .peed of at least nine knots. As regards the replacing of the Rimu, we are as anxious as yourselves to get tho Rarawa back in the running. This vessel is now undegoing her annual overhaul, and we hope to have her back in the trade the second week in November.”
