The retail price of butter at Auckland has been reduced two-pence, and is now Is lOd.—Press Association. The Tahora Settlers’ Association has succeeded in getting a firm to tender for carrying the mail between Tahora and Tatu. At present mailq for the Ohura from Taranaki have to go to Te Kuiti and thence via Matiere to Ohura. By means of the Tangarakau about a couple of days are saved. The metalling of the worst parts of the gorge road, which is contemplated by the Government, and for which £750 has been placed on this year’s Estimates, will make it possible for service cars or waggons to get through in fine weather. It is hoped the Government will tackle the metalling of the road in real earnest next year. The Taranaki Chamber of Commerce is actively associating itself with this desirable improvement in the mail facilities. The Southland Farmers’ Co-operative Association is in serious difficulties. At the annual meeting at Invercargill recently the chairman said that although the balance-sheet showed a loss of £37,567 8s 6d, when the accounts of the various branches of the association were valued and assessed, it was found that provision would have to be made for further loss aggregating £53,000, making the total in the vicinity of £90,000. This would mean that the whole of the subscribed capital of £65,878 and the uncalled capital of £25,000 odd was completely lost. They had the sum of £151,843 16s 7d on deposit—£llo, ooo approximately due in December, 1922, and the balance of £46,000 in June, 1923, if no alterations be made in the moratorium. There was a further item of £52,000 representing sundry creditors which might be called up any day. These figures made bad reading, and were the outcome of bad management, coupled with abnormal conditions and the absence of reserves. After a good deal of plain speaking a committee was appointed to formulate a scheme 'for the reconstruction of the association. A report will be made to a general meeting at a later date. The annual meeting <of the Victoria League will be held to-mortow night. The Rev. O. Blundell will occupy the chair, and the business meeting will be followed by a short musical programme and supper. Mr. A. Gadsby (Stratford) writes: There was a slight error made in the report of the Stratford pedigree bull sale. The report reads: “Mr. A. GadsIby’s ‘Linden Groves Conqueror’ was sold for 65 guineas.” It should read: ‘ Mrs. M. A. Gadsby’s Linden Groves Conqueror’ was sold for 65 guineas.” The Cabaret at the High School on Saturday promises to be a great success The Assembly Hall at the school lends iteelf admirably for dancing, and the floor has been especially prepared for Saturday. Miss George’s orchestra will provide music. The box plan of tables is now open at Collier’s, and patrons are advised to book early, as there are only a limited number of tables
