CARDS.
THE FITZROY CLUB. The Fitzroy Card Club concluded the season on Monday evening with a wind-up social at Autere Park Pavilion. There was a large attendance, and Mr. R. Bartley presided. After the toast, of “The King” had been honored, Mr. A. Elmes proposed “The New Plymouth Card Association,” and spoke in eulogistic terms of the excellent work of the secretary, Mr. F. D. Mackay, contrasting the season just closed with previous years. Other toasts were: “Fitzroy Card Club,” proposed by Mr. O. Kinsella, and responded to by Messrs. Bartley and Elmes: “Kindred Clubs,” Mr. Elmes and Mr. O. Kinsella (Avenue Road), I. Beard (Druids), It. Johnson (Kai Iwis) ; “Secretary, Fitzroy Card Club,” Mr. Bartley and Mr. Elhies; “Autere Park Society,” responded to by Mr. A. R. Davis: “Army and Navy,” responded to by Messrs. Evetts, Moore and Brett (all empty sleeves) ; “The Ladies,” “Musicians,” and “The Press.” It was mentioned that the competitions among members for the best averages were won by Mr. G. Mains (crlbbage) and Mr. W. Christian (euchre). During the evening Mr. Bartley, on behalf of the club, presented Mr. Elmes with an Onoto fountain-pen, as a small token of appreciation of his services to the club. The musical programme, which was greatly enjoyed, included instrumental selections Hy Messrs. Orr (piano), Murphy and Guscott (violins) , Voght (cornet) and Drake (clarionet) ; songs. Messrs. Gibson, Davis and Lowe: violin solo, Mr. R. Murphy. Impromptu community singing was led by Mr. Gibson.
