METHODIST MINISTERS ASSN.
NORTH TARANAKI. The quarterly meeting of the North Taranaki Methodist Ministers’ Association was held in the church at Eltham on Monday. In addition to the Revs. W. J. Elliott (president), and E. B. Chambers (secretary), ministers were present from Waitara, Opunake, Midhirst, Stratford, Hawera, Kaponga, Eltham and Manaia.. After dealing with business arising -out of previous resolutions, the character of the ministers and the conditions of their circuits were passed under review. Some special cases of sickness and need in connection with the various institutions were dealt with, and appro, priate action taken. The chairman reported on the decisions arrived at by the Whiteley Memorial Church trustees regarding the erection -of a memorial cairn ttf mark the place where the late Rev. John Whiteley fell. The reports concerning some special signs of progress among the Sunday schools and churches were received with gratitude. The suggestion that the visits of the centenary and Sunday school organisers be postponed till after the general election was unanimously adopted. The Rev. A. Liversedge reported that the ladies of the congregation had donated a bicycle for the use of Miss Alice Howell, the newly-appointed deaconess, and it was resolved that a letter of appreciation and thanks be sent. An interesting discussion took place on the moral aspect of the forthcoming general election, and it was resolved: “That in view of the great crisis facing the world, and the tremendous forces operating therein, we feel that it is incumbent upon all the members of the -Church to use the means at their disposal in the approaching polls to further the securing of the domination of Christian ideals and principles in the social and political life of the Dominion.”
The Rev. G. Knowles Smith, of Eltham, read a thought-provoking paper on “The best method -of approach to the human heart,” and a protracted and profitable discussion followed. The Rev. Mr. Smith was heartily thanked.
