“MARITANA.” The -production of Wallace’s opera. “Maritana,” by the Choral Society on Wednesday of next week, will revive a very popular work, including some of the. most well-known and favorite solos for this class of work. The opportunity of hearing again, by first-class artists, such songs 86 “Scenes that are Brightest,'’ “Alas I those Chimes,” “The Harp in the Air,” “Let me T.ikc a Soldier Fall,” etc., should be taken full advantage of. The society has secured engagements with some of the leading artists of the Dominion, including Mrs. C. G. Alcorn (nee Eva Nixon), of Auckland, Mr. Arthur 11. Ripley (tenor), of Auckland, and Mr. Craig (baritone), of Wanganui. a«s well as some of the most popular local artists. Of these Mrs. A. M. Wilkes will take the part of “Lazarillo.” and Mr. Ashley B. Macdonald (bass) will take the parts of the King and the Captain. There will be a full choir and orchestra, and an excellent performance may be relied upon. The prices are 4s (reserved), 3a and 2s, plus tax. The box plan opey at Collier’s on Friday next.
