HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.

SCHEME FOR TARANAKI. TARIKI PROJECT FAVORED. The provision of a supply of hydro electricity for Taranaki generally was advanced a further stage yesterday, when the Taranaki Power Board selected Messrs. Climie and Sons’ Tariki scheme. The board has had before it four different schemes, and before coming to any decision decided to inspect them all. Last week two of them were visited, and yesterday the remaining two— Messrs. Climie and Sons’ Patea River scheme and Mr. Horner’s Patea River and Ngaere swamp scheme —were also inspected. Subsequently the board met at Eltham, there being present: Messrs. H. C. Carman (chairman), C. J. B'-lcher, C. E. McGuinness, Geo. Sangster, W. H. Were, W. V. Harkness and T. R. Anderson. After full consideration of all the schemes, it was resolved that Messrs. Climie and Sons’ Tariki scheme be provisionally approved as for 2000 h.p. development, subject to the Minister’s approval, and to confirmation by an independent qualified consulting engineer to be subsequently appointed by the board. It was also resolved that the chairman and Mr. G. Sangster, with Mr. H. R. Climie (engineer) and Mr. W. J. Tristram (clerk), be appointed to wait upon the Minister of Public Works as soon as possible, submit the scheme a” J apply for a license. v
