THE TRAMWAYS.

BEPTEM'BER RETURNS. TARES AND PASSENGERS. The report on the borough tramways for the month ended September 30, submitted by the electrical engineer (Mr. R. H. At the time of writing my last monthly report the traffic appeared to be recovering considerably, and I reported in that direction. For the latter part of August and the beginning of Septembtr we were well up on the corresponding period of last year, but the traffic has, however, fallen off slightly since the middle of September, which results in the above decrease. Matters generally in connection with the department are satisfactory, and there is- nothing which calls for special mention.

The monthly are as under:— Main Route.—Mileage run, 15,391; revenue car mile, 20.94 d; passengers carried, 123,134"; passengers, car mile, 8.O; average fare per passenger, 2.61 d; fares, £1343 4s 9d. Morley Street Route.— Mileage run, 2,56-7; revenue car mile, 8.36 d; passengers carried, 11,772; passengers, car mile, 4.5; average fare per passenger, 1.82 d; fares, £B9 lu« Id. Combined routes.—Mileage run, 17,9>58; revenue car mile, 19.14 d; pas-sen. gers carried, 134,906; passengers car mile, 7.51; average fare per passenker, 2.54 d; total fares, £1432 14s lOd. ELECTRIC BUS SERVICE. During the month the bus has earned a revenue of £ll7 Ils 3d, compared with £B4 6s 9d for the corresponding month last year. For 6| days in September, 1921, the service was suspended whilst the body was being painted and varnished, and this must be taken into consideration in making the comparison. The passengers carried during the month are 12,056, made up as under: Westown, -6736; Frankley Road, 875; X'ogeltown, 4445. —Total, 12,056.
