THE JERSEY CULT.
SOUTH TARANAKI BREEDERS’ SALE, GOOD ATTENDANCE AT KAPONGA, The South Taranaki Jersey breeders experienced most unfavorable weather conditions for their third annual bull fair, which was held by Newton King, Ltd., in the Kaponga saleyards yesterday. There was a good attendance, buyers being present from outside Taranaki. The arrangements for the sale were excellent, the buyers being comfortably seat- i ed in a large marquee, which had been well gravelled, so that despite the heavy rain that had fallen the previous night and the showers during the day, the sale was conducted under comfortable conditions. The' weather conditions caused a little delay in-starting, as some vendors were unable to bring their stock forward early, but there w«s no hitch once the sale started. Bidding was not so free as on some previous occasions, but Mr. C. S. Williams (the auctioneer) was in good form, and so was Mr. i W. B. Fearon, who relieved him at times, and they succeeded In disposing of the whole of the unreserved lots. There were no sensational prices, the sixty-seven lots submitted realising 1144 guineas, prices for good animals ruling in the vicinity of 31gns. Of the stock on which a reserve had been placed, a number failed to reach prices satisfactory to vendors, but some seventeen lots changed hands. Top price was realised by a handsome yearling bull. Fair View Sterling, by Sterling— Cream of 0.K., submitted by Mr. Thos. Linn (Mangatoki). This aristocrat was securea oy Mr. H. L. Spence, of New Plymouth, at 60gns. Of the cattle sold, the bulk remain in Taranaki, but several go to the North Auckland, Waikato, and Ohura, whilst Mr. S. R. Lancaster (Palmerston North) purchased freely. Prior to the commencement of the sale, Mr. A. H. Guy extended a welcome to those present. He stated that the aim of the breeders was to yard cattle that would satisfy purchasers, and the fact that a number were present that had attended the sale last year showed that they had succeeded in doing this. Details of the sales are: — (On account of A. H. Guy, Mangatoki.) Ohio’s Monopoly, by Belvedere Bilberry’s Last—Soumise Jack’s Fancy, calved May, 1922. —W. Green, Stratford, Bgns.
