By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Interviewed on board the Niagara to-day, Patterson (captain of the Australian Davis Cup team) said he considered the Australians did very well against the Americana. He did

not really expect they would beat them, though he thought the odds were four to one on tho Americans, and this was how it turned out, tlie Americans winning four games and the Australians one.

Patterson Indicated that the weakness of the Australians’ backhand was their undoing. Incidentally he mentioned that Johnson had changed his game and was not using his forehand so much. He was relying more on his backhand, which was a very deadly weapon The Australians came ashore to-day, and were entertained at luncheon by the local tennis authorities. Subsequently they played exhibition matches, and left again by the Niagara for Sydney to-night.
