EXCITING ARREST.
POLICE PARTY FIRED AT. THE TRIPLE TRAGEDY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Hobart, Oct. 13. George Carpenter, the man arrested in Connection with the triple tragedy, was discovered Iby one of the police searching parties seven miles from the scene of the murders. The police surrounded the hut. which Carpenter had barricaded. He showed fight and the police fired several shots. Carpenter came out badly wounded in both arms. During the firing Constable Dodd was wounded in the arm by a bullet from one of his companions’ rifles. Both were removed to Hobart Hospital. Carpenter’s condition is serious. Carpenter was formally charged with the murder of Trooper Henderson, whom he alleged he shot by accident. Received October 13, 7.50 p.m. Hobart, Oct. 13. When the pblice surrounded his hut Carpenter was asked to surrender and he replied by firing several charges from a shotgun. He screamed when police fire wounded him and the police then rushed and broke into the hut.
