PEDIGREE BULLS.
SALE AT STRATFORD. A DROP IN PRICES. The heavy decline in prices of pedigree Jersey bulls, which has been in evidence at all recent sales, was the marked feature of the Stratford Jersey Cattle Club's sale at Stratford yesterday, which was conducted by Newton King, Ltd., Messrs. C. S. Williams and K. Kirk being the auctioneers. Of the 110 bulls catalogued, 81 were sold, the total purchase price being 1755 guineas, and the average per head being a little more than 21% guineas. The highest prices for any animals at auction were received for two of Mr. W. Pollock’s bulls, Jersey Park Golden Locks and Jersey Park Iron Duke respectively, which each brought 46 guineas, but Mr. A. Godshy’s Linden Grove’s Conqueror was sold for 65 guineas by private treaty after being passed in. The class of bulls submitted was very good, and higher prices were anticipated. Mr. F. Ranford, president of the Stratford Jersey Cattle Club, said, in opening the sale, that only three animals had been rej'ected by the inspection committee. In vigorously inspecting the cattle submitted, the committee was not only protecting the interests of the sellers, but also of the buyers. He enumer- . ated the reasons why the three animals had been thrown out, and said that others should have been rejected, but satisfactory reasons for their condition Were forthcoming. Following are the details of the sale: — WITHOUT RESERVE. (On account of Mr. J. Chainey.) Prince of Merivale, calved October, 1919, by Nestor’ of Willowbank—Betty of Willowbank.— A. C.
