SEATS IN PARLIAMENT.
RIGHTS OF CIVIL SERVANTS.
AN ENABLING BILL,
(By Wire —Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. Mr. Massey has, as promised, introduced a Bill that will enable public servants to become candidates at Parliamentary elections if they have been granted leave of absence pursuant to the regulations made by the Governor-in-Council. It is provided that no person shall be granted leave of absence save with the consent of the Public Service Commissioner (in the case of an officer, subject to the control of the Public Service Commissioner) and in any other case save with the consent of the Minister for the time being having Ministerial control of the department or office in which such officer is employed. If any person to whom this section relates is declared to be elected a member of Parliament, his employment as a civil servant shall be deemed to have been determined so soon as his right to receive payment as a member of Parliament accrues.
