MYSTERY TRAGEDY.
THREE MEN FOUND SHOT. MURDERER NOT TRACED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Hobart, Oct. 12. A triple tragedy surrounded by mystery occurred near Swansea. The body of an elderly man named Edward Dunconroe, living alone in the bush, was found in his hut fatally shot The hut where deceased was supposed to have a considerable sum of money, was rifled. Later the body of second man named Thomas Carpenter was discovered in the vicinity, bhot in the back of the head. Trooper Henderson proceeded to the scene in a car, and nearing Duncombe’s hut got out, leaving his revolver in the car, telling his driver he would not want it. Henderson, failing to return, the driver went to the hut and found the trooper shot dead. The indications pointed to a terrible struggle. The supposition is that the murderer returned to tlu? hut and Henderson surprised and wa* trying to arrest him when he received the fatal shot. A strong force of armed police and civilians are scouring the district in search of the murderer. Residents are terror-stricken. INDICATIONS OF .STRUGGLE. ARRESTED MAN WOUNDED. Received October 12, 11.30 p.m. Hobart. Oct. 12. A man lias been arrested in connection with the triple murder, which is probably the most horrible in the history of Tasmania. That the arrested man was badly wounded, and the trooper who effected the arrest was also wounded, indicated a struggle, but no details are available.
