CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

ACTIVITY IN NEW PLYMOUTH. At the first meeting of the newly-elect-ed executive of the New Plymouth Caledonian Society, the chief of the society (Mr. R. W. D. Robertson) was in the chair, and judging from the enthusiasm shown, the prospects of a successful season, both socially and financially, are very promising. The formation of a Pipe Band, which has made great progress, has added the required fillip towards making the society a live body. Drum-Major Williamson has tgken charge of the drill arrangements. A good number of engagements have been accepted. The society has in view several schemes whereby it is hoped to raise sufficient funds to provide the band with the national costumes, and anyone desirous of helping in this good cause can do so by sending a donation to the secretary. The question of holding a sports meeting was fully discussed, and a strong sports committee was set up to go into the matter. A concert will be held in the Empire Theatre on Tuesday, October 17, when an exhibition of highland dancing will be given by the McKenzie sisters, of Wellington.

Halloween will again be celebrated this yeat, and will take place in the Workers’ Hall on Tuesday, October 3f. Last year on this occasion the hall was packed to overflowing, and it was suggested that this year it be open for members only. After considerable discussion it was decided to make it again open to the public. PipeMajor Sinclair will give a brief address on Scottish history applicable to Halloween. It was decided to hold an ingleside on St. Andrew’s night, which falls on NovemI ber 30, and this will also take place in the Workers’ Hall. Full particulars will be
