The British Cabinet met this evening, but there wa ; ? only a abort sitting as no further dispatch from Ge ' Harington was received. The Morning Post’s Constantinople correspondent says General Harington has returned to Constantinople pending receipt of an answer from Angora. At the close of the conference with Ismet, General Harington said the British have now on the spot a large number of ships, quite a considerable number of men, and very large guns, adding: “The British are a bad nation to quarrel with.” Those in closest touch with the con ference are still doubtful how matters will go and,, also whether the Turks are negotiating in good faith.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. NOT WANTED NOW. A THOUSAND BRITISH AIRMEN. Received October 11, 11.25 p.m. London, Oct. 11. The Braemar Castle, with a thousand members of the air force on board, Which was temporarily diverted to Constantinople, is proceeding to Mesopotamia.—Reuter Service. THE ALLIES’ TERMS. Constantinople, Oct. General Harington, in presenting th** Allies’ terms to Ismet Pasha, pointed out emphatically how the Turks could realise their national aspirations without recourse to fighting. Ismet Pasha made a conciliatory reply, but requested time to refer certain points to Angora, particularly regarding the ecope of the neutral zone and the admiesion of Turks to Thrace under Allied control. Ismet Pash hopes to give a reply to-night. DEFINING NEUTRAL ZONES. London, Oct. 10. The immediate question facing the Mudania Conference is the delimitation of the neutral zone?* The Allies have agreed that the boundaries shall be rectified, the British remaining in Chanak, but official circles are disinclined to credit the widely circulated report that the Turks will be permitted to remain at the points where they are now stationed along the Asiastic shore. The matter has been left entirely to General Harington’s discretion, and it 5s assumed he will insist upon a Turkish withdrawal from all commanding positions of strategic importance before the Greek evacuation of Thrace commences.
