BOWLING.
THE HAWERA CLUB. OPENING OF THE SEASON. • The official opening of the bowling season was held by the Hawera Club yesterday afternoon, when there was a large attendance, including bowlers from mas) of the other Taranaki clubs. The weather was fine and the green was in splendid order. The opening ceremony was performed by the president (Mr. Foy), and .occasion was taken to open the handsome new pavilion. Mr. Syme senr. presented a handsome shield for competition among South Taranaki clubs, the gift being accepted with hearty applause. On behalf of the visitors, who were hospitably entertained, Mr. J. D. Sole expressed thanks. During the afternoon a match.' president v. vice-president, was played, the fprnier winning by 171 to 161.
