BUTTER SHIPMENTS.
AND MARKET MOVEMENTS. Last month about 65,000 boxes of butter were forwarded to Britain, but since the s.s. Athenic sailed on tember 11, no vessel has left New Zealand with a cargo of butter, consequently the shipments this month will be heavy. The following vessels will load butter, and sail on the dates named:— Boxes Date. Vessel. butter. Oct. 11 .... Port Napier 77,500 Oct. 13 .... Orari 8,000 Oct. I’d .... Corinthic 95,000 Oct. 21 Paparoa 34,000 Oct. 29 Dorset 76,000 Nov. 1 Durham 63,000 Nov. 7 >... Waimana 68,000
This is equal to over 10,500 tons, and the whole of this, except the 8000 boxes by the Orari, will be from North Island factories. The output this season promises to show a substantial increase over last season; the grading figures for last month make that a certainty. Australia has had favorable climatic conditions, and the shipments from the Commonwealth are also likely to be much greater than in the past season. It is estimated that between 100,000 and 150,000 boxes of butter were exported from Australia last month. The supplies from Argentine are also expected to show a substantial increase and to be of a better quality, as more attention is being paid to the production of good quality butter. If, as is anticipated, supplies show an increase, then the current high prices may weaken.
