By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The potato market is weaker. Farmers have been offered £5 15s at country stations *or •whites, but few are inclined to accept this figure after the strong prices of a fortnight ago. The Opihi, which is sailing in a day or so, Is understood to be taking only a small consignment. There has been a revival of inquiry for oats from England, but any margin for export almost immediately disappears on account of the increase in the local price. Local values are generally up to 2/7 and 2/7% for A Gartons, and 2/5 for B’s, at country stations. A few substantial parcels of cowgrass have been sold for the north at 115 s for machinedressed, a shade over Is per lb. This is equivalent to 9%d to farmers. White closer has sold at up to 1/8 for machine-dressed. The loss is much greater than in cowgrass, and the equivalent figure to farmers is about 1/1 to 1/4. It is understood the entries for the undergrade wheat pool are coming in freely from Southland, and to date approximately 100,000 bushels have been offered. The bulk of this has not yet been threshed, and possibly s. good deal of it will be of milling quality and will eventually be withdrawn. LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLED REPORT.
