BOLSHEVIK PROPAGANDA.
AGENTS IN AUSTRALIA. RUSSIAN WOMAN’S STORY. Sydney, Sept. J). Remarkable allegationsof the existence' in Australia of Bolshevik secret societies whose object is a “red” world, have been made by Madame Varvara Kassovskaia, a Russian, who, on arrival in Australia two weeks ago, told a story of thrilling experiences in her native land. She is now in Sydney. Madame Kassovskaia claims to have seen service with the White Army and in various secret societies in Russia. “Bolshevik secret societies are working in your Commonwealth,” she said. “At Melbourne one of their agents came down to the ship and threatened me. An ignorant, uncoutn fellow he was. That same fellow had fled to Australia from America. He had been arrested in the United States for his efforts to spread communist doctrines. With the aid of other Bolsheviks he had escaped from custody. That man is now one of the leading members of the secret society in Australia. I cannot say how many members the society has, but this I do know—many of them are ( in the pay of Russia.” Another leading member of the Red secret society in Australia was a traitor to Russia, said the visitor. During the Russo-Japanese war he was in control of a Russian steamer, and when it was loaded i with ammunition he had steamed to Japan and sold it. “That man,”’she said, “camo to Australia with the profits.” She added that not only were the societies regularly meeting in secret at various cities, but that their members were in positions that could best serve the interests of the cause—a Red Russia, a Red Australia, and a Red world. She further added that there was one
reputable educational body to which the society members had paid special attention. “Gradually they are white-anting it,” she said. “Very soon it will be an all-red organisation, if the secret envoys have their way.” In all probability, said Madame Kassovskaia, she would attempt to gather a secret society around her to cembat the objects af tflt BoUhiYiki.
