BRITISH MINERS.
ADJUSTMENT OF WAGES. DEMANDS OF THE MEN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 6, 7.30 p.m. London, Oct. 5. The national board for the coal industry met and discussed the workers’ proposals for improving the economic position of the industry, including a minimum rate of wages in order to provide an average wage exceeding the July, 1914, wage by a percentage equal to the rise in the cost of living, according to the Ministry of Labor’s figures. The owners replied that it was quite impossible to consider any increase. Indeed, it might be necessary shortly to consider a reduction in the present wages agreement. The workers replied that they could not leave the matter there, and must approach the Government with a view to securing a minimum wage.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
