HEAD OF THE HERD.
DEMAND FOR PEDIGREE JERSEYS. SOUTH TARANAKI BREEDERS’ SALE. The third annua] sale of pedigree Jersey cattle from the herds of leading South Taranaki Jersey breeders was held at the Egmont i A. and P. Association’s showgrounds at Ha- i wera yesterday by Messrs. R. P. Morrissey and Co. In all 96 pedigree bulls, two heifers and a number of yearling grade heifers were catalogued, and the bulk of them changed hands. Buyers were present in good numbers from all parts of Taranaki, and there was also a sprinkling from outside, but with the exception of a few bulls that were purchased for Wanganui, Waikato, Tauranga and North Auckland buyers, the majority of the cattle will remain in Taranaki and go to improve local dairy herds. Mr. R. P. Morrissey weilded the hammer. and was in excellent form, getting through the big catalogue without undue delay. In keeping with the titmes, prices did not rule as high as was the case eighteen months ago. Top price was in the vicinity or 51 guineas, this being realised by Mifanwy’s King, a \vearllng bull, submitted by Messrs. A. and J. O'Donnell. Zarkoma, submitted by the same breeders, realised 50 guineas, the purchaser in each case being H. Barr, of Inaha. The highest, bid of the day was 120 guineas for A. and J. O’Donnell’s/Caresse's Prince, but this did not reach the reserve, so no business resulted. In other cases the reserve was not reached, hut several of the animals changed hands privately. The arrangements for the conduct of the sale were good, and reflect great credit on Mr. Morrissey and his staff. Details of the sales are: — PEDIGREE BULLS. (On account of Messrs. A. and J.
