MEDICAL INSPECTION.
CONDITIONS IN NEW ZEALAND. SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS MADE. SYDNEY DOCTOR’S STATEMENT. Bi Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 5. 1.5 a.m. Sydney, Oct. 4. Serious allegations against the health precautions adopted in New Zealand to prevent the introduction of plague from Sydney are made by a well known Sydney medical man, who returned by the Tahiti. He states medical officers boarded the liner with about thirty thermometers and other instruments. They examined the steerage passengers, among whom were several Chinese, then the crew, ■and lastly the saloon passengers. The instruments were not properly sterilised, only being placed in a 5 per cent, solution of carbolic, which was practically useless. He added that it was a wonderful thing that no disease broke out among the passengers as a result of the examination.
