MANAWATU BEAT WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association Palmerston N., Last Night. The Manawatu representatives, who wrested the hockey championship from Auckland four weeks ago, were not long left in undisputed possession. A challenge match was played against Wellington on Saturday. Manawatu winning by two goals to one. Manawatu forced the pace most of the game, and at halt-time were leading one to nil, Fitt scoring. Wellington did more attacking in the second spell, but the backs’ defence was unpenetrable until Heaphy shot from a scramble in the circle and equalised.
