CONCILIATION COUNCIL.

TEAM SLAUGHTERING QUESTION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Sept. 29. A sitting of the Conciliation Council is being held to consider an application by the New Zealand Refrigeration Company for an award to deal with the team system of slaughtering. The respondents named were the Canterbury Freezing Works and Related Trades Employees’ Union and the New Zealand Freezing Works and Related Trades Employers’ Association. The workers were not represented. The Commissioner said that when tne application was received he had some doubt whether the council had jurisdiction to deal with it and he had applied to the Arbitration Court for directions. The registrar replied tliat the proposed system was an entirely ne\v one for New Zealand and the proceedings should be for a supplementary award. The dispute should be treated as in any ordinary case. The Commissioner added that respondents, not having filed counter-proposals, or nominated assessors, the application for a supplementary award would be ‘forwarded to the court without any recommendation.
