STUDENTS’ PROTEST.
LABOR SECRETARY’S SPEECH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 30. “My country, right or wrong,” was the subject of an address by- Mr. Nash (formerly of New Plymouth), national secretary of the Labor Party, at Victoria College Debating Society. The speaker argued against the teaching embodied in the phrase, but not without considerable interruption. At the conclusion a meeting of students was held at which a resolution was proposed strongly disapproving of some of the opinions expressed, and declaring it the bounden duty of every citizen unreservedly and loyally to support the British Government in the present crisis. It was mentioned that 290 students had already volunteered. Despite some opposition the resolution was carried by a good majority.
