BILL TO GO TO COMMITTEE EVIDENCE WILL BE HEARD. STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER (By Wire—Parliamentary Reporter)”. Wellington, Last Night. TJhe Prime Minister told the House of Representatives just before it rose this morning that a Bill dealing with the proposed dairy pool was now in the hands of the law draftsman, but he did not know how far its preparation had proceeded. The Minister for Agriculture intended next week to take steps to set up a special committee of the House to deal with the proposal. Mr. T. M. Wilford: Will it be a committee drawn wholly from the Gorerument side of the House as in the case of the meat pool? Mr* Massey replied that there had not been any official committee in connection with the meat pool. It was intended that the special committee should consist of men who had a full knowledge of the industry and knew sotoething of the difficulties of marketing dairy produce. The Bill would be sub- ! mitted to the committee after it had been placed before the House. The committee : of experts would then have the right to ! call evidence and those interested would ’ have the right to go before it. If the legislation was to be passed this ' year, there was not much time to waste, i added the Prime Minister. It would be ■ necessary to see that the proposal was not I blocked. He took it that the House and the Government wished to assist the people connected with the dairy industry in bringing about a better system of marketing their produce. He was inclined to think that in spite of the little opposition that had been shown, the scheme that was being put forward would be successful. He could not say yet just what would be in the Bill.
