MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
NEW PLYMOUTH SITTING. Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M., presided over the usual weekly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at New Plymouth, yesterday. ALLEGED HORSE-STEALING. James Elliott was charged with the theft at Upper Mangorei, on November 6, of a pony, saddle, bride and surcingle, of a total value of £ll 10s, the property of Arthur O. Wells. On the application of Detective-Sergeant Cooney, accused was remanded till next Wednesday. BREACH OF THE BY-LAWS. George H. Main was mulcted in the sum of £l, with costs 7s, for riding a bicycle on the footpath in Richmond Street. CIVIL LIST. Judgment was given for plaintiffs for the amounts stated in the following undefended cases: Alice Ford Sampson v. Percy J Francois, £1 Is 9d, costs £1 5s 6d; Newton King, Ltd., v. A. W. Briscoe, 9s, costs £1 9s 6d; W. T. Hookham v. C. Ingle, £1 0s 3d, costs 8s; Taranaki Motors, Ltd., v. New Zealand Meat-packing and Bacon Coy., Ltd., £9 10s, costs £1 15s; Mary Ann Hammond v. Thomas Motu Wi Phi, £ll 10s, costs £3 4s. AFFILIATION ORDER. Judgment was given in the affiliation case heard last week, when decision was reserved to enable his Worship to look into the case cited with reference to corroborative evidence. An order was made adjudging Harry Short, the defendant, to be the putative father of an unborn illegitimate child. Mr. C. H. Croker appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. R. H. Quilliam for the defendant. The question of costs was adjourned for further consideration.
