VESSELS SEIZED.
ACTION OFF AMERICA. SMUGGLING ALLEGED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Washington, Sept. 21. The Associated Press understands that the British Government is asking for information about the seizures of British shipping outside United States waters by the United States prohibition navy on charges of alleged attempted smuggling. While Britain is not sympathetic with smugglers' she considers a larger [ question is involved if the United States extends her jurisdiction beyond the recognised three miles limit at pleasure without consulting other maritime nations. Britain is anxious to reach an understanding on which Mr. Hughes is willing to negotiate.
