PERSONAL.

Messrs. R. Masters, S.G. Smith and O. Hawken, M.P.’s, returned to Taranaki last night. To-day they will meet the directors of various dairy companies at Stratford to discuss legislation concerning the dairy pool. Dean McKenna, of Newtown, is seriously ill, and his condition is causing his friends much anxiety. The dean was to have left on Tuesday on transfer to New Plymouth but was taken ill and his condition has been serious ever since.

A Dunedin message reports the death of Mr. Fredrick Calvert, barrister, aged 61 He was one of -the organisers of the Friendly Societies’ Dispensary and was well-known in Masonic and Oddfellow circles.

Mr. R. M. Isaacs, assistant railway traffic manager at Dunedin, who is well known in football circles, has been promoted to the position of traffic manager at Ohakune, on the Main Trunk line. He will succeed Mr. F. A. Grant, who has been appointed commercial agent for the South Island.

A Sydney cablegram states that a representative meeting of citizens appointed a committee to take the necessary steps for the erection of a memorial to perpetuate the memory of Mr. Henry Lawson, the poet. The New Zealand Times says: Dean McKenna, of Newtown, is seriously ill, and his condition is causing his friends much anxiety. The Dean was to have left on Tuesday on transfer to New Plymouth, his successor at Newtown being Rev. Father Cashman, who recently returned from a holiday trip to Ireland. Last Wednesday night, however, Dean McKenna was taken ill, and his condition has been serious ever since.
