NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Swimming Club was held last night, Mr. F. J. L'ggleton (chairman of the eoni'inittee) presiding over a good muster of enthusiasts. The annual report stated that at the commencement of the season the club had a membership of 32. During the season 53 members were added, making the present unembership 85. Four successful carnivals were held during the season, the takings at the third of these, held on the occasion of the visit of Missed Hoeft and Page, constituting a club record. Several visits were exchanged between the Hawera, Stratford and New Plymouth Clubs during the season, and were appreciated by all concerned. The lack or seating accommodation at the baths being very apparent, the baths committee provided tills, the club contributing half the cost (£9). Several valuable trophies were competed foi* at the various carnivals. These included the Dalgleish silver cup, breast stroke gold medal donated by Mr. J. Bennett, whilst the Grey ; Cup, McHardy and Weston shields, and medals ■ donated by the Wanganui centre, were also competed for. The club desired to thank all I who donated cups, trophies and medals during the past season. A very successful social evening was held on April 26, when Miss Annette Kellenman presented the trophies and gave some valuable advice on swimming. The hope was expressed that a visit from the Christchurch swimmers, Misses Shand and Bristed, should be arranged for the coming season. The matter of head centre should be considered and application made for same. It seemed ridiculous that Taranaki was controlled by the Wanganui head centre* whilst New Pipmouth was unable to hold championship carnivals because it was not a. head centre. Thanks were expressed to all those who had made the past season so successful, especially tc the officials, baths custodian (Mr. P. Mathieson), secretary and treasurer, and the The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £24 5s 2d. In formally moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman expressed appreciation of the club’s standing, both financially’ and numerically. Mr. K. Mr. Eggleton was appointed delegate to the meeting to be hold to-morrow (Saturday) of those interested in swimming, the objects of the meeting being to formulate a time-table for the new baths season. The meeting favored the support of mixed bathing as much as possible, it being agreed that the ladies’ lifesaving club should have exclusive rights to the baths for instructional purposes, the hours recommended being 5.30 to G. 30 a.m. daily and 6 tci 7 p.m. three nights a week. It was also recommended that the Sunday morning timetable be extended to 11 a.m. Mr. Blennerhassett moved that the affiliated clubs in Taranaki be circularised asking for their opinion on the project for forming a head centre in Taranaki, instead of the swimming affairs of the province being administered through Wanganui, as at present. The motion was carried. The membership fees were fixed as follows: Active and honorary members ss; junior members (IS years and under) 2s Gd, ladies 2s 6d, boys and girls under 14, Gd. The Borough Council will be approached with a view to having a new diving board installed and proper lighting arrangements made as soon as possible. It. was also desired to know the relation between the council and the club, it being thought better that the club should run its own carnivals and pay the council a percentage on the gates. If possible a carnival will be held early in December. The secretary and treasurer were granted a joint honorarium of £7 7s. Mr. Eggleton was re-elected chainman of the committee.
