FARMERS’ CO-OP. REPORT.

The Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society of New Zealand, Limited, report for the week ending September 16, 1922:

At Opunake on Monday there was a good entry despite the rough weather. The demand for dairy heifers was on about a par with late rates. Store cows and weaner heifers were in demand and sold at prices that were slightly firmer. Quotations: Good fleshy cows 35s to £2 12s 6d, light cows 25s to 30s, old cows 15s to 20s. 2-year empty heifers £4 to £5. yearling steers 335, Shorthorn yearling heifers £2 to £2 7s 6d, Jersey cross heifers £3 10s to £4 Ils, small Jersey cross ditto to £3, brindle heifers £2 10s to £3 2s 6d, Holstein heifers £2. 5s to £2 19s, Jersey incalf heifers £9 to £ll, Holsteins £7 to £lO 10s. others £6 to £9, poorer quality sorts £3 to £5, weaner pigs 13s.

At Manaia on Tuesday there was a fair entry. Fat cows made from £4 to £6. forward ditto to £2 10s, others 20s to 355, good Jersey yearling heifers £5 5s to £6 7s, Jersey cross heifers to £3 ss, others to £2 15s, small £1 to £1 Gs, Jersey dairy £ll 10s to £9, others £5 to £7. dairy cows to £ll 10s.

On the same day at Stratford we had a good entry; the sale was spirited throughout both for heifers and store stock, prices generally, showing an all round improvement. On

Wednesday, at Inglewood, we had a good entry of sheep and cattle. There was a. much better enquiry for store stock, but prices show

much improvement. Fat sheep made 275, ewes with lambs at foot 22s 7d, two and four-tooth ewes and wethers 22s 7(1, young cows 35s to £2 ss, meaty cows to £3. Jersey cross twoyear heifers £4 10s, mixed ditto £?, ss, 2-year steers £2 12s 6d. extra good yearling ditto £2 7s 6d, others 355, small Jersey cross

weaner heifers £2 to £2 15s, bigger sorts to £3 15s, Holstein ditto to £3. Shorthorn ditto to £2, smaller £l, upwards best dairy heifers to £lO 10s. medium to good £7 to £9 10s. others to £6.

At Auroa on Friday there was a good entry which met with keen competition, prices showing an all round improvement on late rates. Forward cows made £3 to £3 10s, young meat sorts £2 5s to £2 12s 6d, light young ditto to 355, others 20s, 2-year empty heifers to £3 10s, Ayrshire cross yearling heifers £2 10s. best dairy heifers to £lO 15s, medium to good £7 to £9, others to £5, weaner pigs £l.
