REQUEST FOR REDUCTION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright Dannevirke. Sept. 19. All the dairy factories in Southern Hawkes Bay were represented at a conference with Messrs. Mason and Grant, business representatives of the Railway Department for the North and South Islands. A request was made for an immediate reduction in the freights on dairy produce, which were considered abnormally high in comparison with what is being obtained for butter-fat. also too heavy in comparison with the charges on other commodities. The question was exhaustively discussed Ihe position of the Department being lucidly explained, and the railway representatives promised to make a sympathetic report to the General Manager of Railways. Mr. M'Nicol. M.P.. who arranged the conference, was also present, and tendered the thanks of both parties for the interest shown in the matter.
