TARANAKI DISTRICT COMMITTEE. The Taranaki District Committee met last night. Present: Messrs. L. A. Nolan (in the chair), O. W. Sole, .1. McLeod, A. Alexander, J. Gray, A. Good, H. Washer. B. H. Chaney, and G. Fraser. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. S. Pitt and D. J. .Matone. The Taranaki Jockey Club’s programme for i its Christmas meeting was approved. Lists of fines, and the inspector's report, in connection with the recent meeting of the .Xorth Taranaki Hunt Club, were approved. Particulars from the Egmont Racing Club for inclusion in the unpaid forfeit list were authorised to be forwarded ,to the Racing Conference. TURF TOPICS. (By “Moturoa.”) During the next few days, race-meetings will crowd thickly upon one another. The Manawatu Hunt Club opens the ball at Awapuni to-day. The Ashburton Counts’ R-C. will race on Friday and Saturday, and the Avondale J.C. and Otaki Maori R.C. on Saturday and Monday. Taranaki’s interests will be divided between Avondale and Otaki, Income, Stork, Hipo, Alteration, etc., being engaged at the northern meeting, while Cold Steel, Eerie, Pouma, Miss Beauforte, Big Push, and others figure amongst the acceptors for the Otaki meeting. The outstanding feature of Saturday's racing at Wanganui was the continued success of Otauru Kid, Tatton Park and Blush, the first-named pair—with three wins apiece in one week—being particularly consistent. Fred Davis’s two-year-olds. Queen’s March and Orflno, had the youngsters’ race to themselves, the former returning over a “score.” Trespass again upset the pot in the Eclipse Stakes, beating Thespian and Winning Hit after a great race—a feat which he brought off against Amythas and Rose Queen two years ago. Muraahi ran his best race to date in the Higgle Handicap, and judging by the crampr-d “prices” quoted about the Taranaki pair, Muraahi and Irapuka. somebody must have backed* him with confidence. All Cerise, who generally runs well on the Wanganui course, rewarded “Tommy” Long with a nice dividend in the Moutoa Hack Handicap, and Irapuka won the final event with something to spare. Several horses were unlucky at Wanganui on Saturday. Pluto was going in fine style in the Eclipse Stakes, when his girth broke. Homage lost whatever chance she had in the Debutante Stakes by being badly left. Admiral Codrington was bumped all over the course in the Higgle Handicap, and must have covered a lot of superfluous ground. Civilform looked like first prize in the Owen Handicap when he ran wide at the home bend. There were others, of course, but none of the above were disgraced by Saturday's performances, and may have better luck in their immediate engagements. On Marton and Wanganui form, Tatton Park appears to have a great chance in the Manawatu Hunt Cup this afternoon. Otauru Kid, who has come on a lot since Marton, should again beat Mattock’ in the Te Matai Hack Hurdles. The Baronet and Triboulet appear to be the best of a bad lot in the Hunters’ Hurdles, and Ringi may be suited by the distance of the Parorangi Steeples. Bravato, Plutus, Flying Nell, Helen Rufus and Yankee Dan should show up in the flat races. The track Is in splendid order, and a capital steeplechase course has been erected. Secretary W. McKenzie and his confreres are doing everything possible to ensure the success of the gathering. Re-handicaps are as follow: Manawatu Hunt Cup—Tatton Park 12.9; Te Matai Hack Hurdles —Otauru Kid 11.8 ; Parorangi Steeples—Tatton Park 12.12; Newbury Handicap—Helen Rufus 9.0.

Tatton Park, who has won three races during the past fortnight, is not by any means a champion, but has had the good luck to only be opposed by hunters and others hardly worthy of the name of ’chasers. In the Marangi Steeples at Wanganui—Tatton Park’s best performance—he did not have very much on an old stager like Polthogue, while Gay Boy and The Baronet fell, and Luke was too sore to stride out at any part of it. There are quite a number of good jumpers in Taranaki that would have only had to stand up to beat Tatton Park on Saturday. The principal winning owners at Wanganui were: F. Davis £575, W. R. Kemball £4BO, J. Morris £375, Curran and Wood £365, H. Hickey £325, Rua Moetahuna £2BO, G. B. Starky £255, T. O'Donnell £240, H. B. Gibson £240, E. Davis £145, T. Long £135, L. H. Collinson £135, W. H. Dwyer £135, H. W. Brown £lOO, and A. B. Williams £lOO. Amongst the jockeys, S. Walls, H. McSweeney, L. G. Morris and J. O’Shea divided honors with two wins apiece. Others to ride a winner were: H. E. Ryder, H. Wiggins. D. R. Gunn, J. Barry, B. H. Morris, L. A. Pine, C. Reed, and E. Manson. JOCKEY LOSES LICENSE. Christchurch, Last Night. J. O’Shea’s jockey license has been withdrawn by the licensing committee of the Racing Conference. A BRILLIANT PAIR. LAST SEASON'S FINE RECORD. The performances which have most bearing on the two races in which the champions (Gloaming and Beauford) have met are those registered by the pair last season, and they are as follows : GLOAMING.
