Mr. Mathieson urged that some of the younger enthusiasts should be prevailed upon to act as instructors, as the club was always wanting these for preparing candidates for the various examinations. He thought that each class should provide at least one instructor. He moved that a sub-committee be appointed to report on the possibilities of obtaining instructors. Messrs. Mathieson and Eggleton were appointed the sub-committee. An honorarium of £5 5s was voted to Mr. Mathieson, as a slight recognition of the work he had done as examiner. The chairman offered a donation of £2 2s for a trophy' for the instructor gaining the largest number of passes. Mr. Bennett promised a trophy for the succeeding year. The donations were gratefully accepted. Dr. Wade was thanked for a donation of £1 Is for a trophy for the candidate ob taining the’highest marks in the award of merit examination. Votes of thanks were accorded the pre sident for his services and for the use of his room for meetings, and to the Press. Mr. Mathieson thought that the question of sending swimmers from this district to outside championship, handicap and shield contests should receive consideration, as it would be a valuable ‘‘boost” for New Plymouth. At a subsequent, meeting of the committee Mr. Standish was re-elected chairman.
