MEETING OF THE BOARD. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth High Schools’ Board was held last night. Present: Messrs. J. S. Fox (chairman). H. Trimble, A. E. Washer, F. W. Atkinson, E. P. Webster. L. A. Nolan, L. C. Sladden and Dr. Fookes. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs. S. G. Smith. M.P.. and A. Morton. Miss Clark, who has resigned her position. wrote thanking the board for the resolution of appreciation passed at the previous meeting. I A letter was received from the Otago : High School Board regarding the keepI in<j of records of the physical develop- ' ment of pupils. Mr. Moyes wrote stat- • ing that before the fire records of this i nature were taken at the close of each 1 Term. He was considering renewing these records when the new gymnasium i was built, but deemed it to be of little use unless a qualified physical instructor | was retained to deal with physically ' backward pupils. ; In connection with the holding of a {conference on the formation of a high j school boards’ association, the Napier i Board wrote that it had been decided to hold a conference on September 27 ,at Wellington. Two delegates from each .board were suggested. —It was decided that the board should be represented, and Mr. S. G. Smith and the secretary were appointed delegates.

The chairman’s action in authorising certain expenditure at the girls’ boarding house was confirmed. It was also decided to extend the telephone to the principal’s office. The matter of requisites for the boys’ school was left to the chairman.

It was decided that three plots adjoining the boys’ school be sown in lawn grass. Twelve spades and twelve hoes were also authorised.

A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. W. Honeyfield for the gift to the boys’ school of a fine Jersey heifer.
