Y.W.C.A.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Y.W.C.A. was held on Thursday at the hostel. There were present: Mesdames E. A. Walker (in the chair), A. Ambury, W. Ambury, Alexander, List, Mills. Mac Diarmid, Misses Harrison, Hodder and Roughton. An apology was received from Mrs. O. Blundell. A letter was read from Miss Birch, national field secretary, recommending to the board a qualified girls’ work secretary who would be free at the end of the year, and advising them of' her suitability for the appointment they have in view. Miss Roughton reported that there had been 17 permanent residents and 35 transient visitors, ten of the latter being school teachers sitting for examination. The house had been full all the month. The detached room had been re-papered and put in order. Extra china had been bought, Mr. Percy Howell kindly made a wooden curb for the sitting room, and is also making towel rails for the bathroom. Mrs. E. A. Walker had given shrubs for the garden. Both dressmaking and millinefy classes had been most successful judging by the attendance, some girls coming long distances to be present. The Rev. Mr. Strong has consented to hold a Bible Class at the hostel. Any girl who wishes may attend. Arrangements for the annual meeting. which is to be held at the Soldiers’ Club on September 21 were discussed. Some nominations were received for vacancies on the board caused by the rotational retirement of four members, and by a decision to increase the personnel of the board by three more members.
