PLAY IN AMERICA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York, Sept. 14. In the tennis tournament at Seabrlght, Patterson defeated Williams, a member of the American Davis Cup team, 6—3, G—3, 6—4. Kichards defeated Anderson, 6—2, 6—4, 7—5. In the first set of the Patterson-Williams match, both players seemed to be off their form, and neither could clear the net. The games consistently followed the service until Patterson broke through Williams' service and won four games in succession. In the second set Williams won the first game to love, but then seemed to break up. Patterson’s service was top speedy. In the third set Patterson continued splendidly unfit the fourth game, when lie served five double faults and seemed to lose his nerve. Williams took the next four games, but Patterson then recovered his steadiness and won the last three. DETAILS OF PLAY. Received Sept. 15, 5.5 p.m. New York, Sept. 14. In the first set of the match Richards v. Anderson, the former started serving, and games followed the service until the sixth and elghth_ games, when Richards nrnke through Anderson’s service. In the second set Anderson, after winning the first three games, became wild. Richards won the fourth game on his opponent’s service, and gave him no further chance. In the third set Richards played in his old form and was helped by Anderson’s errors. Patterson is the only Australian remaining In the semi-finals of the national singles championships. The others are Tilden, Richards and Johnston, all members of the American Davis Cup team. Patterson next meets Tilden.
