SOLAR ECLIPSE.

ELANS FOR THE EVENT, TEST OF EINSTEIN THEORY. FINE DAY HOPED FOR, By Telegraph.—Press Asan. —CopyrightReceived Sept. 15, 9.25 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 15. Various solar eclipse parties are steadily completing their arrangements for the great event, though oad weather in some instances interfered with the erection of the monster telescopes. Wireless installations are being completed for the interchange of notes and other details of the work are well in hand. In order that each operator may thoroughly know his part, and to assure the requisite accuracy in obtaining priceless records for testing the Einstein theory and other important data associated with the eclipse, preparation rehearsals are being held. Success largely depends upon fine weather, which is usually associated with the dry districts comprised in the totality area, though they have lately somewhat belied their reputation. The scientists, however, hope and are earnestly praying that more favorable conditions will ibe restored before September 21.

Though it will probably be several weeks before it is possible to publish the actual results of the investigation of the Einstein theory, because of the necessity of comparing the notes of the whole of the observing parties, it is hoped to get a purely preliminary result within a week after the eclipse.— Aus.-N.Z.
