The Union Company's trans-Pacific cargecarrter Waitemata arrived from Va'ncbuver and San Francisco, via Napier yesterday afternoon with over 2000 tons of general <-abgo, the largest inward cargo of its kind that has yet been brought to New Plymouth. The cargo consists chiefly qf lumber, newsprint and oil. The vessel was boarded by the harbormaster (Captain Wm. Waller) at 2.30, and was alongside ibe vylia.rf.at 3.15 p.m. The Waiteinata’s principal dimensions are: Gross tonnage 5729, net tonnage 3555, dead-w&ight 8900 tons, length 415 ft., breadth 53ft. On entering, port the vessel was drawing 20ft. Tin. forward and 21ft. Tin. aft. Cpptain Ritchie, who is in command, has associated with him the following officers: Chief officer. Mr. R. Huntly; second, Mr. W. Henderson: third, Mr. J. Lundie: chief engineer, Mr. P. Ward; second, Mr. H. Matheson: third, Mr. C. Mitchell; fourth. Nir. J. MdKlegan ; wireless operator,\-Mr. K. Dines; chief steward, Mr. Clark.. The W’aitemata is expected to sail on Wednesday for Dunedin, Bluff, Melbourne and Sidney., . and subsequently loads again for New Zealand ports at Calcutta. The Waitemata is a comparatively new vessel, having been built at Newcastle in 1919 for the Union S.S. Co. KAHIKA WITH CARGO. The Kahika, with 80Q tons of general cargo from South Island ports and Wellington-, - arrived in port shortly after noon yesterday. The vessel is timed to sail for Nelson at noon to-day. THE RARAWA. The Rarawa brought passengers and 100 tons of general cargo from yesterday morning. She sailed on the return trio at 8.30 last night. JOHN’S NEXT TRIP. The John is due at Wellington from Lyttelton on Monday, and is expected .at New Plymouth the following day with general cargo. MAINDY LODGE RE-NAMED. A Sydney cablegram states that the InterState Steamship Company. Ltd., announce that permission has been granted by the Board jif Trade, London, to re-name the collier Maindy Lodge the Iron Chief. The Maindy Lodge is well known in New Zealand shipping circles, and has several times visited New Plymouth, bringing coal cargoes. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. ARRIVED.
