LONDON’S FASHIONS.
BACK TO SIMPLICITY. London, Sept. 5. Bare backs and arms, bobbed hair and skirtless legs are doomed. Blatant flapperdom has received a “knockout.” Such is the moral of London’s first fashion exhibition, which the Lady Mayoress opened, and which has been organised to demonstrate to the world that London is worthy of consideration as a fashion centre. Modesty, and a simplicity almost Victorian, are the most striking features of the exhibits. A return to the crinoline is hinted at in a velvet evening gown with numbers of cords, some indies apart, at the hips, and strong enough to give the crinoline effect. Other effective creations are cushion collars on evening cloaks; cloaks, reversible, and made with velvet side trains; bridge hats with veils attached; and Russian coat-frocks. The exhibition indicates that waists will be worn an inch higher, and that bobbed hair has given place to curls moderately high on the back of the head and also over the ears.
